Two ways to play for a perfect frame
Bowling Mayhem offers two distinct gameplay modes. Classic Mode stays true to the classic game of tenpin bowling. Line up your shot, use your phone’s touchscreen to control power and spin, then release to send your ball careening down the lane. It's an ideal take on the sport that's easy to pick up, hard to master, and filled with room to improve your pursuit of strike after strike, or that elusive 7-10 split.
If you're after something a little wilder, Mayhem Mode adds a joyous layer of controlled chaos. “When playing single player, five random obstacles will appear on the lane named ‘Wildcards.’ The player gains the ability to steer their ball using their touchscreen or gyro to weave in and out of the Wildcards,” said Joshua Richardson, Lead Designer. In multiplayer, each player takes control of their own Wildcard between turns. Time an activation just right and you can send an opponent into the gutter before they reach the pins.
With more than 65 Wildcards available, every match plays a little differently. Some alter the lane, while others interfere directly with the ball. The Flying Saucer inverts your controls, while the Ball Launcher launches your ball in a direction of your choice…and others introduce surprises you'll have to discover for yourself.
Finding the fun early and often
"Some of our fondest gaming memories are of standing in front of the living room TV and playing a fun bowling game with our friends and family. With Bowling Mayhem, we wanted to recapture that energy and were able to find it almost immediately. Even in the earliest prototypes we were laughing while dodging obstacles and trying to ruin each other's perfect shots," said Richardson.
That focus on shared experiences shaped the project from the beginning. Inspired by the local multiplayer games many of the development team grew up with, Bowling Mayhem was designed to make it easy for friends and family to play together using the phones they already have in their pockets.
"Even when we were playtesting over video calls, the game recreated that feeling of everyone laughing together over a party game in the same room,” finished Richardson.

The colorful bowling alleys, playful Wildcards and energetic visual effects give each lane its own personality, while the soundtrack and game-show-inspired announcer help set the tone for every match.
